A detour from the scenic road, at the junction for Forte Stella, will take you to the beautiful Spiaggia Lunga. The descent is strenuous, and the climb back up even more so, but the effort is well worth it.
The sea here is enchanting: the seabed, made up of rounded pebbles and sand, creates shades of turquoise that blend with the green of the surrounding Mediterranean scrub.
Just a short walk away lies Cala dello Sbarcatello, a place with an evocative name that speaks to its historical significance. It was, in fact,the only landing point available between the port of Porto Ercole and Punta Avoltore, a role that made it the site of numerous military operations and, unfortunately, also a favorite landing spot for the pirates who once infested these waters.
