Beach - La Cantoniera

Sand or Rocks?

From wide, golden-sand beaches to secluded, hidden coves, the Argentario offersbeaches for every taste: whether easily accessible or wild anduntouched, they are all surrounded bypristine natureand overlookcrystal-clear waters.

La Cantoniera takes its name from the roadmender’s house located just above the beach and serves as a reminder that, in the past, people could reach Porto S. Stefano by train.

World War II destroyed the railway, which was never rebuilt, but today this important historical legacy has allowed the town to enjoy a picturesque road open to cars, cyclists, and pedestrians, right along the route once traveled by the little train.

Today, it is the town’s most popular beach among residents and vacationers alike, thanks to its beauty and location—it lies just behind the Port of Santo Stefano and is easily accessible from town after passing through the first tunnel on the former railway road.

The view takes inthe entiretown and the sea all the way to the Uccellina Nature Reserve.
