The Long Upwind Leg

Where the Wind Meets the Sea — The Long Upwind

Once again this year, the waters off Porto Santo Stefano will host the Lunga Bolina, a regatta organized by the Circolo Canottieri Aniene in collaboration with the Yacht Club Santo Stefano under the auspices of the FIV. The three-day event features offshore racesin the Tuscan Archipelago, coastal regattas, and races for the Este 24 class, blending sports, the sea, and community spirit.

The Lunga Bolina is a sailing regatta organized under the auspices of the Italian Sailing Federation by the Circolo Canottieri Aniene a.S.d., in collaboration with the Santo Stefano Yacht Club. The event takes place from April 24 to April 26 and is  one of the most distinctive events in our region: it brings together the sea, sports, and the community in an authentic experience.

What makes this event unique is not only its exceptional natural setting, but also the variety of courses, formats, and activities included, along with a strong social component that runs throughout the entire event. Among the key races is the Lunga Bolina Offshore, one of the races in the 2026 Italian Offshore Championship and the 2026 Tuscan Archipelago Trophy. This regatta is reserved for offshore boats over 9 meters in length and is also open to crews as small as two people. The course, approximately 127.2 miles long, includes mandatory passages between some of the most iconic islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the stretch between Giannutri and Elba, starting and finishing in the waters off Porto Santo Stefano.

Next to the offshore race is the Lunga Bolina Coastal Cruise, designed for those who prefer not to spend a night at sea but instead enjoy two separate days of racing. A shorter course, up to a maximum of 33 miles, that still allows participants to be part of a three-day event dedicated to the sea, the wind, sailing, and socializing.

Ample space is also devoted to fans of one-design boats, where dynamics, speed, and precision of maneuvers are key elements. The Este 24 class features several dedicated events, including the Lunga Bolina Coastal Race—the second stage of the E24 National Circuit—a 35-mile coastal race from Santa Marinella to Porto Ercole, aroundArgentario Porto Santo Stefano; as well as the Stadium Race in the Old Port in front of the Porto Santo Stefano Town Hall, and technical windward-leeward races in the waters off the Santo Stefano Yacht Club.
