Quattro Forti Rowing Regatta

Regatta of the Four Forts:
Porto Ercole: A Celebration of the Sea and Tradition

The Regata dei Quattro Forti brings Porto Ercole to life in early June, during the festival of Sant’Erasmo. A competition between neighborhoods that blends the sea, tradition, and a lively celebration, featuring rowing races, masked parades, prizes, and an evening show.

Although the Quattro Forti Rowing Regatta does not have as long a history as the PalioArgentario, it is a significant event for the community of Porto Ercole, as it takes place in conjunction with the celebrations honoring the patron saint, Saint Erasmus, in early June.

Four districts are competing: Forte Filippo, Santa Caterina, Rocca, and Stella, named after the historic fortresses that overlook the town. The race consists of 10 laps totaling 2,760 meters within the harbor, clearly visible from both the pier and the breakwater, known as the “braccio.”

In addition to the adult race, there is also the Paliotto, reserved for participants under 21. Before the race, each district parades in costume, accompanied by singing, dancing, and a large crowd of spectators. The day concludes with an awards ceremony in Piazza Roma, followed by the traditional bingo game and an evening musical performance.
