Route Description

This route follows Route 6 exactly until the path leading to the Capodomo Tower. Once you reach that point, continue along the dirt road for about 800 meters, surrounded by the silence of the Mediterranean scrub.

When you reach the paved road, cross it and take the path directly in front of you, following it for 300–400 meters until you reach a fork. Turn left and continue for about 600 meters until you reach a gate on the left. Next to the gate, take the downhill path, which winds through the vegetation for about 700 meters until it rejoins a dirt road.

Turn right and continue for 1 km until you reach an intersection; go straight ahead, and shortly after you’ll come to a second intersection. Here, turn left downhill, following the sign for “La Casa dei Nonni.”

This is followed by an ascent of about 750 meters, after which the road levels out again, passing through a more open area. Once you reach the top, you can see the steep climb leading to the Torre dell’Argentiera on the right (optional route). Our route, however, continues straight ahead for about another 15 minutes until it reaches a four-way intersection.

Continue straight ahead here, taking a path that starts as a dirt road but turns into a paved road after a few meters. After a short stretch on level ground, a steep descent begins, leading directly to Porto Santo Stefano, near the starting point, thus completing a long hiking loop.

Route between Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole

For those who wish to walk between the two towns, you can follow a series of routes already described:

  • Route No. 24,

  • followed by route no. 13,

  • traveling along a stretch of the Panoramic Road, which starts as a dirt road and then becomes paved,

  • and finally a section of Route 14A.

You can easily return by bus, using the local route that connects the two villages on the promontory.
