The route begins at the Piazza del Mercato in Porto Ercole, located just before the entrance to the historic center (see also Route 14). There isa helpful sign on the public restrooms in the square to help you find your way. After walking about 700 meters, turn right onto a paved road marked by two distinctive square stone columns.
From here, follow a path shaded by cypress trees that leads to theAnnunziata complex. The climb, though long and strenuous, is made easier by the constant shade and the scenic beauty of the area, which more than makes up for the effort.
After walking for about 4.7 km, you’ll reach a large rural building known as “Annunziata.” Here, turn right onto a concrete slope that eventually gives way to a dirt road leading into the Mediterranean scrub, surrounded by intense scents and the deep silence of nature.
The route continues for a total of about 7.5 km, until you reach the picturesque “little cemetery” of the Passionist friars, a secluded place steeped in spirituality. Continuing on for a few more minutes, you will finally reach the courtyard of the Passionist Monastery, after a total walking time of about 1 hour and 25 minutes.
A route that combines nature, spirituality, and physical exertion: starting from the Market Square in Porto Ercole, the path climbs along a cypress-lined avenue to the Annunziata complex, then continues through the Mediterranean scrub to the picturesque Passionist cemetery and, finally, to the Convent of the Passionist Fathers, one of the most iconic places of peace and silenceArgentario.

Conclusion for hikers:
An ideal route for a challenging hike, thanks to the long initial climb, but also for those seeking quiet, meditative spaces away from the crowds. Excellent for an early morning hike or during the shoulder seasons, with the option to return via the same trail or continue on other routes from the monastery.
