This scenic route begins at the top of the San Pietro hill, about 5 km from the cemetery in Porto Santo Stefano. From there, the trail continues uphill along a dirt road, surrounded by the typical vegetation of theArgentario.
At the first intersection, turn right; from here, you can already see the solitary island of Giannutri rising on the horizon between the sea and the sky. Continuing along the route, turn right again at the second intersection and follow the road for about 1.5 km downhill and then along flat ground until you reach the spot known as “Trivio dell’Olmo.”
Here, turn right again, following the signs for Sguazzatoio. Continue along the dirt road, and after about 1.5 km, you’ll pass a charming wayside shrine withan image of the Virgin Mary, nestled in the greenery—the perfect spot for a brief, meditative pause.
Continue for another 2 km, with long ascents and descents, for a total duration of about 35–40 minutes. The route ends at the Fonte del Romito, a place of great charm and tranquility, ideal for a refreshment break. This hidden spring, framed by lush vegetation, is cool in summer—perfect for escaping the heat—and warm in winter, offering a peaceful retreat in all seasons.
Here you can enjoy a snack, surrounded by the tranquility of nature, before heading back.
Starting at the top of the San Pietro climb, about 5 km from the Porto Santo Stefano cemetery, this route winds along an uphill dirt road through The Argentario vegetation. After two intersections (turning right both times), you reach Trivio dell’Olmo, where you turn right again toward Sguazzatoio. After 1.5 km, you’ll come to a wayside shrine with an image of the Madonna, an ideal spot for a short break. Continue for another 2 km of ups and downs through the scrubland and natural silence, until you reach the Fonte del Romito, an enchanting spot that’s cool in summer and mild in winter—perfect for relaxing before heading back.
