The sculpture by Mauro Staccioli
MAURO STACCIOLI. SCULPTURE marking, questioning, crossing (1971–2016)
Edited by Francesca Rosi and Caterina Martinelli
Opening: June 6, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Location: Forte Stella, Porto Ercole Dates: June 6–September 27, 2026
The exhibition
A retrospective featuring twenty-two works, including sculptures and drawings. Four monumental sculptures are situated at the corners of the fort’s ramparts; fourteen other sculptures and four drawings are arranged chronologically throughout the six interior galleries, spanning the artist’s entire creative career from 1971 to 2016.
The works in iron, concrete, and Corten steel interact with the fortress’s space, while the drawings on paper reveal the more intimate dimension of Staccioli’s artistic exploration.
Mauro Staccioli (Volterra, 1937 – Milan, 2018)
An Italian sculptor, he developed “intervention sculptures” made of concrete and iron with a strong political message in the 1970s. Since the 1980s, his forms have become more open and curved, engaging with the landscape. His archive is now overseen by his daughter Giulia and directed by Andrea Alibrandi.
Exhibition organized by the Municipality of Monte Argentario the Argentario & Ambiente Special Agency, with scientific support from the Mauro Staccioli Archive.
